Diabetes is one of the fastest growing metabolic disorder of the world. It is rampant throughout the world and it's incidence is progressively increasing.
To the world which is already having adequate number of people suffering from diabetes, a new number of people are being added everyday.
It is a metabolic disorder in the true sense. With the progressing age , people tend to develop this metabolic disorder. This metabolic disorder is partly a acquired one. And the other half is contributed from our genes.
Having a healthy lifestyle seems to prevent the early onset of this disorder. Having regular exercises helps in preventing diabetes. Diet helps in control of diabetes and a healthy diet helps in preventing the ill effects of diabetes.
A diabetic should ideally consume a diet that is predominantly protein and fibre.
Carbs in the diet should be as less as possible. Generally completely stopping carbohydrates intake is not helpful. Every man requires carbohydrates for his or her daily activities. Even diabetic also requires some carbohydrates intake. But a diabetic patient will not be able to handle his carbohydrates as a normal person does. Result, his blood sugar is high compared with a normal person equivalent to his age and physique.
Best control of diabetes is by three steps.

Relaxation.

A diabetic can divide his plate in 4 quarters.
One quarter of the plate being the cereal. Wheat can be the best cereal, with protein and carbs in desired proportion. Whole grain wheat is the best available cereal for consumption. Chapatis and rava upma can be Indian dishes prepared from wheat.
Bajra is a good millet best for diabetes. Millets are always a good source of protein. Bajra can be used to prepare rotis with minimal effort. Just avoid adding additional salt or oil in the preparation.
Ragi is also good option for those who are accessible to it. Rotis can be prepared easily with minimal doughing. Avoid excess doughing as it can become too sticky. Dough it just to soft and adequate to make roti. Ragi can be useful to make it as ganjee. Traditional recipe of mixing ragi powder with buttermilk with spices and cumin seeds, known as "ragi amlee" is famous in North Karnataka.
